The age-old question: should I find a designer who does branding and web design as a package? My answer? Absolutely. But let me tell you why!
There are plenty of reasons someone would opt out of getting web design alongside their branding. It could be to save on costs, they want to DIY their website, or they already have a designer they want to go to. All of those reasons are completely valid, but here’s why I encourage you to go with a designer who does both.
A designer who does both can keep your branding consistent throughout with ease. It comes as second nature to them. Not all web designers are the same. You would hope a web designer would ask for your branding before beginning a project, but not all of them do. The best ones will, but if you’re trying to save a buck or two, the ones in your price range may not understand the full importance of keeping branding consistent. Let me be abundantly clear though: this is not every low-priced web designer. That’s why it’s so important to vet the service provider you’re looking at. Some designers do what they need to do to stay consistent and just price themselves low because they’re just starting out or don’t know their value yet. But a good portion of low-priced designers are designing websites on a whim and don’t really have technique.
When you book a branding and web design project with a designer who specializes in both, you’re essentially saving more time and money than you would by seeking out a separate web designer and a separate brand designer. For instance, when you book with me, I make sure my bundles save you money, because I believe it’s really important for the two to go together.
Now you might be thinking, well Mariah, I like your branding but not your websites. Which is fair, and I’ll try my best not to cry… but the great news is I have a list of FABULOUS web designers who I know would be more than willing to coordinate with me as your brand designer to make sure your website is consistent with your branding. But again, that’s more money coming out of your pocket at the end of the day.
It’s becoming more and more popular for brand designers to also specialize in web design because we’re realizing how important it is for branding to stay consistent on your website, and how quickly that can be lost depending on how you go about building it.
I have done my fair share of DIY websites, and updated my fair share of them too. I understand the ease and cost-effectiveness. But here’s the issue with DIY websites. Most people creating one either 1. don’t have good copy that’s going to get them seen by Google, 2. are using a template thousands of people already use instead of a design made from scratch, or 3. don’t know how to properly use the branding they just paid thousands for, and the site ends up a mess.
So, do you have to book a designer who does both? No. But if you want a brand that looks and feels the same everywhere it shows up, it makes everything easier. If you’re ready to have your brand and website built to work together, I’d love to chat. Head to my contact page and let’s make something you’re proud to send people to. And if you do go the DIY route? I’ll be here when you’re ready for the breakup. No judgment, I promise (okay, maybe a little).
