Stop Using Canva for Your Logos

Have you ever asked yourself “Can I make my business logo in Canva?” Well the short answer is… yes you can. But SHOULD you? I love ya, but no. But instead of just waggling my finger at you, allow me to explain

3 Reasons you shouldn’t Use Canva for your Logo

1. Your logo looks like everyone else’s. It’s incredibly easy to spot a Canva logo versus one created by a designer. Your business deserves to stand out, not blend in with the crowd.

2. Scalability is a nightmare. Design hierarchy is almost always missing from Canva logos. When a designer creates a logo, they know what needs to take center stage (your business name) and what plays a supporting role (your brandmark and tagline). Business owners designing on their own don’t usually have that knowledge, so what I typically see is a brand name that’s tiny and a brandmark that takes over the whole thing. Why does that matter? When you go to print, your business name becomes unreadable. When you post online, people can’t figure out what your business is even called. That’s the opposite of what you want.

3. The file formats aren’t true vectors. When you hire a designer, you get multiple file types for any printing needs: SVG, PNG, TIFF, EPS, and more. That makes it easy to hand off to another designer or a print shop who needs a hi-res version. Canva does offer some of these formats, but here’s the catch: Canva logos are typically just images, graphics, and fonts layered together. A brand designer builds your logo from scratch in vector format, meaning every line was drawn specifically for your logo and can be scaled or edited without losing quality. We’ll do a deeper dive on vector files another time.

Listen, I love Canva and I use it all the time! I am not here to bash on the software. I think it is a great tool for business owners. But creating your logo through canva brings a lot of risk to your business like i’ve stated earlier. If you’re looking for a new logo, I would love to have a chat with you! All of packages come with payment plans because I strive to make branding affordable and accessible to all business owners!
