Do you ever ask yourself, “Why is my site not bringing in any sales?”

Here’s the thing: if you’re asking this question, I’m going to assume you either DIY’d your website or hired the cheapest designer you could find. Don’t worry — we all start there. But let me help you out of that rut and break down the 3 biggest mistakes keeping your website from converting the way you want it to.


Mistake #1: You Don’t Get to the Point

When someone lands on your website, they’re coming to learn about your business. They don’t care what you ate last week or what your favorite quote is. They want to know what you do, who you are, and what your values are.

Your landing page should include, right at the top, a statement that explains what your business does. For example, mine says:

“Branding that feels like you, and makes your business unforgettable”

I’m not flat-out saying “Hi! I design brands and websites.” Instead, I’m explaining what I do and what the goal is when we work together. Most importantly? I have a clear call-to-action button guiding the reader deeper into my site.


Mistake #2: Your Web Design Doesn’t Make Sense

Tiny font. Clashing colors. Random stock images of people you don’t know. All of these disconnect your reader and make them bounce.

People seriously underestimate the power of good design. Think about walking through the grocery store — when you see a product with amazing packaging, you want to pick it up. Web design works the same way. If the design is confusing or hard to read, people immediately lose interest and click away. And that? Loses you business.


Mistake #3: Weak or Missing Calls to Action

Like I mentioned earlier, your website should lead visitors throughout the site. Which means you need clear, intentional CTAs everywhere.

Your browser should instantly know where to click to:

  • Learn more about you
  • Inquire about working with you
  • Find your services

A button that just says “Click Here” isn’t cutting it. This is where strategy meets design. A CTA should tell them exactly where they’re going and why they should care.
